Environment Canada extended the Extreme Cold Warning thru tomorrow Thursday, January 31st. The alert was re-issued at 11:10 AM, and corroborated by the Weather Network's forecast.

If you think that today is cold wait until tomorrow.

The south-west wind is consistent at 33 km/h with gusts reaching 50 km/h. The day's high reaches 16, and with the windchill feels like minus 27. Clear skies dominate the day. The chance of snow is  between 10 to 20 per cent

The wind speed drops as we go through tomorrow evening lessening the effect of the windchill.

This morning, the Arctic air mass moved into Oakville. With a low of minus 20 degrees, it felt like minus 35. So heading out today and tomorrow, frostbite happens in a few minutes.

Frostbite shows as white, cold, and waxy skin. Susceptible body parts include: ears, noise, chin, hands. Keep your skin covered. Also, hypothermia may develop in these conditions.

Department of Health's Frostbite Treatments:

  1. Get into a warm space
  2. Use blankets or reheat they body by skin-to-skin contact with another person
  3. To warm hands place them in your underarms
  4. Place injured skin in warm – not hot – water
  5. Do not rub, massage or shake the injured skin
  6. For toes or feet, try not to walk on them
