On Monday May 20th 2019, the elderly driver involved in the collision on Valleyridge Drive, an 84-year-old Burlington resident, died as a result of complications arising from injuries sustained in the collision. The passenger, a 92-year-old woman from Oakville remains in hospital in serious condition.
The collision occurred on Wednesday May 8, 2019.
The driver of the vehicle turned into St. Luke's Anglican Church and the vehicle became stuck after partially driving over the median separating the driveway and the parking lot. The driver and her two passengers exited the vehicle, surveyed the situation, and determined that a tow truck would be required to free the automobile from the median.
As the elderly driver and her rear-passenger were reaching into the vehicle to retrieve their belongings, the driver inadvertently caused the vehicle to be put in motion and accelerated the vehicle while it was in reverse.
The driver and the passenger were ejected from the vehicle through the open doors on the driver's side of the vehicle when the vehicle swerved to the right. The vehicle continued in reverse across the west boulevard and came to rest against a set of concrete stairs for the church.
At the request of the family, the name of the elderly driver will not be released by Halton Regional Police Service.

On Wednesday May 8, 2019 just before 8:00 PM, Halton Regional Police Services were dispatched to Valleyridge Drive south of Dundas Street West in the Oakville neighbourhood of Palermo, for a motor vehicle collision. The collision involved serious injuries.
St. Luke's Church and Community Centre are located at the corner of Valleyridge Drive and Dundas Street West.
Emergency services personnel attended the scene. They found two women who were suffering with head injuries. The women required immediate care.
An 84 year-old female Burlington resident was taken to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital in serious condition. The 92 year-old female Oakville resident was taken to Hamilton General Hospital's trauma centre in life threatening condition.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit attended the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation. It would seem that the vehicle involved in the collision became stuck on the curb. As the driver attempted to reverse, she fell out of the open driver's door and a pedestrian was struck as the vehicle was moving.
