Environmental Awareness Day: July 6, 2013

Oakville is our home so let’s take care if it is the message of the day at the Fifth Annual Environmental Awareness Day to be held on July 6, 2013 at Tim Horton’s, 111 Cross Avenue (Trafalgar Village).

“It is so rewarding to see how this grassroots event has expanded with more partners and volunteers to assist us with such a worthwhile cause", says Julia Hanna, chair of the Oakville Chamber of Commerce. “Raising awareness about recycling and greener living as well as participating in a neighbourhood clean-up benefits us all.”

The event is a partnership between the Chamber, Tim Horton’s, Kerr Village BIA, in association with M&M Meat Shops, Home Depot Children’s Workshop, RecurBox , the Driveway Doctor, the Main Event, Peel Scrap Metal Recycling and Shred-It. Big Brothers Big Sisters Halton benefit from the day’s proceeds.

Local vendors are on hand with green exhibits, a community clean up, confidential document shredding, electronic recycling, children’s activities, entertainment and a raffle are all taking place. Those who sign up as a volunteer for the community clean-up will receive a complimentary t-shirt, BBQ and refreshments.

Tim Horton franchisees have teamed up again this year for the Tim Hortons annual ‘Earn A Bike’ program and presentations will be made during the event. These children were selected by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton, who also coordinated the program and provided supervision while the children were out completing 30 hours of community service by cleaning up local parks and schools or assisting a local community group.
