Halton Regional Police Service is a member of the Joint ERASE (Eradicate Racing Activity on Streets Everywhere) committee which includes several GTA Police Services working together to target street racing and aggressive driving in local communities.
On Friday June 28, 2019 Officers from Halton were accompanied by Officers from Peel Regional Police Service and the OPP. All were deployed across the region of Halton to target aggressive driving.
ERASE charges laid summary
- 114 Provincial Offence Notices were issued
- 11 summonses issued
- 4 criminal charges laid
- Two drivers were charged with stunt driving and had their vehicles and driving licences seized for seven days. These drivers were caught operating their vehicles at 57km/h and 70km/h over the posted speed limit.
- 1 driver had their licence suspended for 3 days after failing a road side screening test
- 2 drivers were arrested and charged for impaired operation. Both had their vehicles seized and their driver's licence suspended for 90 days
- 1 driver was arrested for being in possession of a weapon
Halton Regional Police Services will continue to partner with services across the Greater Toronto Area to target aggressive driving and encourage the public to report aggressive driving and street racing whenever they see it.
The Halton Regional Police Service remains committed to road safety through prevention, education and enforcement initiatives.
Members of the public are reminded that driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol is a crime in progress and to call 9-1-1 immediately to report a suspected impaired driver.
