Extreme Cold Warning extends into Friday, February 1st

Environment Canada issued another extreme cold warning for Friday February 1st. The warning was issued on January 31st at 3:17 PM.

However with this warning comes a little good news. This blustering bitter cold moves out late Friday.

February 1st Forecast

  1. The day starts off at 9:00 AM with a temperature of minus 19 and feels like minus 26.
  2. The sky is mainly cloudy but may clear up by early afternoon.
  3. The days high is minus 11 and feels like minus 17. This is the break we've all been looking forward to.
  4. Though there is a windchill, it isn't horrible.
  5. Around 9:00 PM the temperature dips down to minus 15 and feels like minus 22.
  6. Possibility of precipitation is around 10 per cent.

Frostbite and hypothermia may occur. Be prepared.

As we found out today, black ice is a serious factor during these cold days. Today, the police responded to numerous accidents. One of the more serious incidents was the multi-vehicle accident that closed down Speers Road westbound between Kerr Street and Cross Avenue.

The accident occurred in the middle of rush hour, which played havoc for commuters.

But more importantly if you are heading out on February 1st dress appropriately. If you'll be driving, make sure your car has all the appropriate things that will keep you fed, warm and dry.
