The 6th Annual Environmental Awareness Day combines family fun with a community clean-up on Saturday, July 5th 2014 at the Oakville GO Station, 214 Cross Avenue.
From 11am to 2pm, participants can enjoy a Barbecue by M&M Meats, donuts and beverages by Tim Hortons, live entertainment, giveaways, kids' activities, and interactive exhibits about living 'green.'
Beginning at noon, attendees are invited to join forces with the Clean-up crew to hit the streets around Oakville GO station. Volunteers receive a free t-shirt and free BBQ (high school students are also eligible to earn volunteer hours.) A drive-thru electronic recycling depot is available, making it easy to safely dispose of electronic waste.
"The Environmental Awareness Day is one of the highlights of our year," says Geoff Shore, owner of Tim Hortons, 111 Cross Avenue.
"This fantastic event is great for families looking for a fun afternoon that also delivers an important message about our role in keeping our community clean and green," says Orla Johnston, Chair of the Oakville Chamber of Commerce. "We expect a bigger crowd than ever this year given the larger GO station location and the variety of family-friendly activities."
The event is a partnership between the Chamber, Tim Horton's, ConnectUs, Big Brothers Big Sisters Halton in association with M&M Meat Shops, Home Depot Children's Workshop, and Peel Scrap Metal.
Local Tim Horton franchisees have teamed up again this year for the Tim Hortons Earn-a-Bike Program which helps kids experience the value of community spirit through volunteering in their communities. Kids who have completed the program will be presented with a brand new bike and safety gear at the event.
"The Environmental Awareness Day is one of the highlights of our year because not only do we get to award our Earn-a-Bike participants, we get to connect with our community while doing good for the town of Oakville," says Geoff Shore, owner of Tim Hortons, 111 Cross Avenue.
All proceeds from the day's event will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters Halton.
