Effie sits back comfortably for our conversation about her decision to run as the Conservative candidate for Oakville North-Burlington. She is a woman who is confident, smart and determined.

Born in Greece, she moved to Canada when she was just a baby. Her family settled just south of the Danforth in Greek Town. Her dad arrived first in order to establish himself, and sent for his wife once he was established. Their family was the first to immigrate to Canada from their region of Greece.

She learned a lot about public service from her parents, who often were the first stop in Toronto. Effie describes her childhood home as a refuge for many new families. For herself and her brother, a good education was stressed. She became the first in her family to go to university, and the first to become a lawyer. She received her Masters of Laws in International Trade and Competition Law from Osgoode Hall.

She decided to retire her law shingle a few years ago, after which time she started sitting on the Board of the Canadian Save the Children Foundation, and was an active board member for 6 years. She is also a director, and past President and Chair of the Hellenic Society, which promotes Greek culture.

In January she decided to move to the Dundas and Bronte road area of Oakville, and on June 7, 2015 Effie became the official Conservative Party candidate for Oakville North-Burlington riding.
