Environment Canada issued winter weather warning for freezing rain at 11:19 AM on February 20 2019 for the evening of Wednesday, February 20th.

Once again, freezing rain is on its way.  The cause is a Colorado low tracking toward Lake Ontario. With temperatures hovering around the zero, and the last few days of freezing temperatures makes the conditions ripe for freezing rain.

Snow fall starts off this weather event around mid-afternoon. There will not be much of the white stuff. The likelihood of snow is 40 per cent, so we might see no snow. However, with an east wind, it changes the situation slightly.

The expected time for freezing rain to start is just as rush hour begins. The plows will be out in full force, so for the start of this event driving should not be too bad. It really depends on the amount of ice rain that falls. Arterial streets should be safe, however, once you are on a side street expect it to be icy.

There is a 90 per cent chance of precipitation by 7:00 PM

GO Transit has already sent out a warning that the icy conditions could create delays during this evening rush hour.

Ice rain is expected to last until the mid-evening hours of February 20th. Temperatures are expected to rise over night, and then slowly drop back down to the freezing mark by tomorrow evening.

Please remember to salt your walkways to keep the area safe. Road ways could be slick, so give your self plenty of room to stop. Finally, walkways, sidewalks, and parking lots can turn into ice rinks.

Be safe.

Please note: Weather warnings are warnings. Environment Canada issues these warnings in order to prepare the public of a possible weather event.
