On Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 3:30 PM, Environment Canada issued a freezing rain warning for Wednesday, February 6th.

There is an 80 per cent chance of precipitation starting at 5:00 AM. The freezing rain lasts until late Wednesday evening. Temperatures hover around the freezing mark during the day. The accumulation could reach up to 23 mm.

The greatest accumulation of freezing rain occurs during the morning commute (7:00 AM to 9:00 AM), when up to 6 mm could fall.

Freezing rain turn sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots into skating rinks. Salt your sidewalk and driveway. If you have a neighbour who is unable to salt, please do it for them.

The build up of ice on tree limbs and power lines may create power outages. Ensure you are prepared. Halton Region has a full list of supplies you should have. It includes such items as:

  1. Water
  2. Non-perishable food
  3. First Aid supplies
  4. Tools and supplies
  5. Clothing and bedding
  6. Special Items

Remember to drive with extreme caution, and when moving around outside take your time.

The February 6th ice rain warning may extend into Thursday.
