Garbage Tags Now Available On-Line

As of April 1, 2013, households may place 3 garbage bags/cans at the curb every other week. More than 3 garbage bags/cans require a “garbage tag,” up to a total of 6 garbage bags/cans maximum (3 untagged, 3 tagged).

How to get garbage tags

Currently, garbage tags are complimentary and can be ordered:

  • Online. They will be mailed to you. The final day t o order complimentary garbage tags online is August 19, 2013.
  • In person at select retail locations and municipal buildings.
  • Complimentary tags expire September 7, 2013.

Starting August 19, 2013, garbage tags can be purchased:

  • Online. They will be mailed to you.
  • In person at select retail locations and municipal buildings.
  • Start using these $2 garbage tags on September 9, 2013.

Conditions

  • No refunds on purchased and/or used garbage tags.
  • Garbage tags are not required in apartment buildings or townhouse complexes with common pile garbage collection.
  • Garbage tags cannot be used:

  • To dispose of garbage at the Halton Waste Management Site or private transfer station. For Blue Box, GreenCart, Yard Waste, Bulk Waste or Metal and Appliance collection. For garbage bags/cans over 23 kg (50 lbs).
