Ontario’s government for the people is moving forward with the next stage of the GO Rail Expansion program that will improve and expand GO train service into a two-way all-day rapid transit service every 15 minutes on core segments of the GO Rail network.
Our government is delivering on its commitment in the 2019 Ontario Budget to move ahead with the GO Rail Expansion Program to get people moving faster and improve customer experience throughout the GO Transit network. Our government is committed to improving the transit experience for people and ensure that the GTHA continues to grow and prosper as one, integrated region.
The province – through Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario – is releasing a Request for Proposals to a list of teams pre-qualified to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the infrastructure needed for the On-Corridor Works project, the largest capital project in the GO Expansion Program, which will deliver two-way, all-day service every 15 minutes over core segments of the GO Rail network.
The four teams pre-qualified to bid on the GO Rail Expansion Program:
- EnTransit
- MTR Kiewit Partners
- Oncore Transit
- ONxpress Transportation Partners
Through the GO Rail Expansion Program, Ontario’s government is delivering on its commitment to improve the customer experience throughout the GO Transit network. Programs like free travel for children 12 years and under, and historic increases to GO service – including the largest increase in GO Rail service in five years on the Lakeshore East and Lakeshore West lines, more service on the Kitchener line, and year-round weekday commuter rail service to Niagara Falls and St. Catharines – are putting commuters and people who rely on public transit first.
I am also pleased to share the good news of upcoming improvements to the Oakville GO station, including the addition of secure bike storage, new digital signage, and new platform edge tiles to improve safety for all customers. Additionally, in partnership with the Town of Oakville, Metrolinx is addressing concerns of residents regarding the current road - rail level crossing, and will lower Kerr Street below the rail corridor.
