The Halton Regional Police Service was called to the Granary, a high rise building situated at 100 Lakeshore Road East, Oakville. An Sunday, August 5, 2018 at 6:53 pm the policed assisted the Oakville Fire Department with reports of a coolant leak in the building.
The building situated at the corner of Lakeshore Road East and Navy St in Old Oakville was the scene of an ethylene glycol leak on the third floor of the building.
As a result of the liquid leak three residents suffered exposure resulting in minor skin irritation. These residents were treated by Halton Paramedics at the scene. Due to the leak residents of 9 units on the third floor were being evacuated overnight to allow for repairs and cleaning.
Halton Police assisted at the scene of the incident with the Granary containment and traffic management.
Ethylene glycol is a colorless, odorless, viscous dihydroxy alcohol. It has a sweet taste, but is poisonous if ingested. Ethylene glycol is the most important glycol commercially available and is manufactured on a large scale in the United States. It is used as an antifreeze and coolant, in hydraulic fluids.
