The Halton Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce this year’s recipients of the annual Governor General Bronze Medal, awarded to the student graduating with the highest average from each secondary school.
The average is calculated based on the final marks in all Grade 11 and Grade 12 courses, as listed on the student’s official Transcript of Grades issued by the Ministry of Education.
"We are proud of the outstanding achievements and extraordinary talents of our students," says Paula Dawson, Director of Education. "This medal of honour is a reflection of the academic perseverance and unwavering dedication demonstrated in our award recipients. We wish our students all the best in their future endeavours as they continue to fulfill their God-given potential."
The 2015 recipients of the Governor General award for the Halton Catholic District School Board from Oakville are:
James Ingman: Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School, Oakville: 96.43%
Ian Berlot-Attwell: St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Secondary School, Oakville: 99%
Kristen Abels: St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School, Oakville: 98.1%
For over 130 years, the Governor General’s Academic Medals have recognized the outstanding scholastic achievements of students across Canada. They are awarded to the student graduating with the highest average from high school (Bronze Medal), as well as from approved college or university programs (silver at the undergraduate and gold at the graduate level). Lord Dufferin, Canada’s third Governor General after Confederation, created the Academic Medals in 1873 to encourage academic excellence across the nation.
