At the Halton District School Board meeting of June 18, 2014, Trustees voted in favour of the appointment of Stuart Miller as the Board’s Associate Director. Miller will assume the role following the retirement of Jeff Blackwell on August 31, 2014.
“This was a very difficult decision due to the high caliber of the candidates who came forward willing to take on this role,” says Kelly Amos, Chair of the Halton District School Board. “Stuart Miller has been an integral part of our senior administrative team, and his on-going support of his colleagues and commitment to student achievement will continue to serve this Board well.”
Since coming to Halton in 1984, Stuart has been a secondary math and science teacher at White Oaks Secondary School, Syl Apps and Iroquois Ridge High School (from its inception). He has also taught in Malawi and Tanzania in east Africa. Miller was first appointed to an administrative position in Halton in 1999 as vice-principal at Lester B. Pearson High School, before being transferred in 2001 to Iroquois Ridge High School. In 2003, Stuart was appointed as Principal at TA Blakelock High School, and transferred to Georgetown District High School as Principal in 2008.
In 2009, Stuart was appointed as Supervisory Officer with the Halton District School Board senior administrative team. As a superintendent, Stuart’s responsibilities have included family of schools groupings in Oakville, the Board’s Research Department, Managing Information for Student Achievement (MISA) initiative, senior liaison to secondary administrators, as well as socio-economic and social justice initiatives.
