The Halton District School Board has set four public meetings to discuss English and French Immersion elementary programming. At the present time, the Halton District School Board is experiencing challenges in providing viable programming in English and French programs in some of our elementary schools.

In February 2015, a committee was established to examine issues related to the challenges of providing English and French Immersion programming. The committee, known as the “Program Viability Committee”, studied the issues. They included the increasing interest in French Immersion and the impact on the core English program. The board’s ability to recruit a sufficient number of qualified and fluent elementary French teachers was also considered. These issues were presented with preliminary recommendations (Report #15081) to the Board of Trustees in June 2015.

Parents/guardians are invited to attend to learn about the key issues, as well as the process and timelines to gather public input. Halton District School Board staff will present information concerning English and French Immersion program enrolment, as well as the preliminary recommendations of the Program Viability Committee.

The Oakville meeting will begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday October 27, 2015 at White Oaks Secondary School's South Campus, located at 1330 Montclair Drive.

Other Halton meetings will begin at 7:00 PM at the following locations:

  1. BURLINGTON on Monday, October 26th at Nelson High School: 4181 New St
  2. MILTON on Monday, November 2nd at Milton District High School:396 Williams Ave
  3. HALTON HILLS on Tuesday, November 3rd at Georgetown District High School: 70 Guelph St

For those unable to attend any of these meetings, the presentation and related information will be posted on the board website (www.hdsb.ca) following the meetings.
