Halton District School Board welcomes back students & staff

The Halton District School Board looks forward to welcoming approximately 65,000 Kindergarten to Grade 12 students on the first day of school on Tuesday, September 3, 2019.

The Board’s 6,211 teachers, 3,209 non-teaching and support staff, and 225 principals and vice-principals are outfitting classrooms, preparing sports fields, polishing floors, cleaning buildings and organizing schedules to prepare schools for another exemplary and exciting school year.

The Board is excited to announce it is now on Instagram. Follow the HDSB at @HDSBschools for a look at the innovative and engaging activities, practices, and people that make up our schools, classrooms and work spaces.

The HDSB is already on Twitter and Facebook, providing even more opportunities for families and the broader community to connect and learn about the great things happening in HDSB schools .

As the HDSB continuously strives to maintain and improve school facilities, more than 300 construction projects, including renovations and upgrades, were started over the summer break at dozens of elementary and secondary schools.

Work included:

  1. roofing improvements
  2. ventilation
  3. new entranceways
  4. windows
  5. doors
  6. flooring
  7. washrooms and more

The HDSB encourages schools, staff and families to share how they are getting ready for the first day of school on social media with the hashtag #HDSBFirstDay.

Stuart Miller, Director of Education for the Halton District School Board, is eager to welcome students and families back for another year of exceptional learning and creating positive memories.

“We are very excited to begin the 2019-2020 school year and make it a positive and memorable one,” says Miller. “We hope students, staff members and families had many opportunities during the summer break to connect with loved ones, rest and reflect on goals achieved the previous year. As the first day of school fast approaches, we are prepared and eager to help students reach their dreams and explore their passions and strengths. We know education is transformative and we will provide a learning environment that is safe, respectful and engaging for all of our students.
