Halton Region appoints two new commissioners

Regional Council today approved the appointment of two new commissioners to fill positions recently vacated following the retirements of the Region’s Commissioner and Medical Officer of Health and Commissioner of Public Works.

James A. Harnum was appointed as Commissioner of Public Works, effective Tuesday, May 20, 2014and Dr. Hamidah K. Meghani was appointed as Commissioner and Medical Officer of Health, effectiveMonday, July 14, 2014.

James Harnum has over 25 years of experience in public works with 22 years of progressive experience in municipal government.  He is currently the General Manager of Solid Waste Management for the City of Toronto.  Prior to that position, he served as Director of Water Treatment and Supply for the city.  Before his tenure at the City of Toronto, Mr. Harnum was employed by the City of Hamilton as the Senior Director, Environment and Sustainable Infrastructure and President of Hamilton Renewable Power.

Dr. Meghani currently serves as Associate Medical Officer of Health for the City of Hamilton.  She received her Medical Degree from McMaster University, has completed training in Public Health & Preventative Medicine and is a Fellow with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons.  She is also a certified Family Physician and has a Masters of Public Health in Family and Reproductive Health.
