On April 8, 2017, two Halton Region Paramedic Services teams participated and received top honours at the National Paramedic Competition in Ottawa, reflecting Halton Region’s commitment to community safety.
Every day Halton’s paramedics help save lives across our community and I’m grateful to them for the important role they play in treating the emergency medical needs of our residents. On behalf of Regional Council and all our residents, thank you to our paramedics for all they do every day to help keep our community safe. The exceptional achievements of our teams at the National Paramedic Competition speak to their dedication and commitment and I’m proud that the skills of Halton’s Paramedic Services were able to be showcased on the national stage.
The service is comprised of over 220 full and part-time paramedics with a fleet of 34 emergency response vehicles, responding to over 50,000 calls annually.
Challenging paramedics to strive for excellence in their profession and the care they provide to their patients, the competition involves an academic exam and several scenarios where paramedics are required to respond to simulated emergencies. Halton Region Paramedics were recognized with:
- Overall academic award – Primary Care Paramedics Justin Mlynaryk and Adam Sellors;
- Second place, Primary Care Division – Primary Care Paramedics Justin Mlynaryk and Adam Sellors; and
- Fifth place, Primary Care Division – Primary Care Paramedics Amy Ogilvie and Becky Hsing.
Halton Region’s Paramedic Services operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Halton paramedics provide pre-hospital care to residents in Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville. The service is comprised of over 220 full and part-time paramedics with a fleet of 34 emergency response vehicles and responds to over 50,000 calls for service annually.
