Halton Region to host rain barrel truckload sales

Halton Rain Barrel

On Saturday, May 24, 2014, Halton Region will hold the first of four rain barrel truckload sales events as part of Halton’s water efficiency program to help encourage wise outdoor water use. Halton residents can purchase a rain barrel for $39.95, cash only, at any of the four events (proof of Halton residency required). New this year, residents now have the option to pre-pay online before each rain barrel sales event and can also arrange for home delivery (at an additional cost), directly through the rain barrel supplier.

The promotion of water conservation and efficiency continues to be a top priority for Halton Region. I encourage residents to take part in the spring rain barrel sales events to help conserve water during the summer months when water consumption can double due to activities such as lawn and garden watering. Since the first rain barrel truckload sales in 2009, Halton residents have purchased nearly 20,000 rain barrels, which at full use would have the potential to save a combined total of up to 3.8 million litres of water.

Each sales event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the following location:

  • Saturday, May 24, 2014

Halton Regional Centre (parking lot “A” – enter at North Service Road)

1151 Bronte Road, Oakville view map

The rain barrel fits into the back seat of an average-sized vehicle and requires minimal assembly. Residents are responsible for adapting their downspout to flow into the rain barrel and assembly instructions are included. This year’s rain barrels come in a new sandstone colour, are made from a durable, heavy duty plastic containing recycled content, and have a capacity of 240 litres.
