Halton Schools perform above average at 2016/17 EQAO & OSSLT

The Halton District School Board and the Halton Catholic District School Board have just released the results from the 2016/2017 EQAO & OSSLT.

An independent agency, The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) provides assessments that measure all of Ontario grade 3, grade 6 and grade 9 students’ reading, writing and math abilities. The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) is administered by the EQAO which measures Ontario grade 10 students' literacy.

The EQUAO & OSSLT tests which were written at the end of 2017 provide information about the reading writing and math. Here are the provincial averages for each grade and skill:

Grade 3 students who met or exceeded standards

  1. reading: 74%,
  2. writing: 73%
  3. math: 62%

Grade 6 students who met or exceeded standards

  1. reading: 81%
  2. writing: 79%
  3. math: 50%

Grade 9 students who met or exceeded standards

  1. academic math: 83%
  2. applied math: 44%

Grade 10 students who met or exceeded standards

  1. literacy: 81%

Halton Catholic District School Board results for EQAO & OSSLT - 2016-2017:

Grade 3 students who met or exceeded provincial standards:

  1. reading: 85%
  2. writing: 84%
  3. math: 75%

Grade 6 students who met or exceeded provincial standards:

  1. reading: 87%
  2. writing: 86%
  3. math: 64%

Grade 9 students who met or exceeded provincial standards:

Mathematics:

  1. academic math: 85%
  2. applied math: 57%

Provincial average for grade 10 students who met or exceeded provincial standards

  1. literacy: 81%

Halton District School Board results for EQAO & OSSLT - 2017/2016

Grade 3 students who met or exceeded provincial standards:

  1. reading: 82%
  2. writing: 79%
  3. math: 70%

Grade 6 students who met or exceeded provincial standards:

  1. reading: 87%
  2. writing: 86%
  3. math: 57%

Grade 9 students who met or exceeded provincial standards:

  1. academic math: 92%
  2. applied math: 52%

Provincial average for grade 10 students who met or exceeded provincial standards

  • literacy: 87%

EQAO & OSSLT - 2017/2016 results continue to show that both Halton Boards of Education are delivering an excellent quality for education for Elementary, Junior, and Secondary students.

According to the Fraser Institute, that ranks schools across the country, Oakville's Top School are:

Elementary of which there are 2900 in Ontario

  1. Catholic: St Luke's ranking 62nd
  2. Public:  EJ James ranking 73rd

Secondary of which there are 740

  1. Catholic: St. Ignatius of Loyola ranking 79th
  2. Public: Oakville Trafalgar ranking 4th
