Ontario Secondary School Teachers` Federation (OSSTF/FEESO) Provincial announced that teachers in District 20, Halton, will be adding additional sanctions to their job action as of Tuesday, September 29 unless a local collective agreement is reached by that date.
The Halton District School Board questions this announcement by the OSSTF Provincial Office in light of the mutually agreed upon local negotiation dates of September 30 and October 1.
The Halton District School Board remains committed to continuing negotiations with the local union and reaching a negotiated settlement as soon as possible.
Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF/FEESO) teachers in District 20, Halton, who have been engaged in a selective withdrawal of services since May, will be adding additional sanctions to their job action against the Halton District School Board on Tuesday, September 29, unless a local collective agreement can be reached between OSSTF/FEESO and the board by that time.
“Our members have been without a contract for more than a year, and we’ve been operating under administrative sanctions since May 21, 2015,” said Brad Fisher, President of OSSTF/FEESO District 20, Halton Secondary Teachers. “These additional sanctions being announced today indicate the level of importance the board should be placing on reaching a local agreement that meets the needs and interests of our membership.”
Jo Dean, OSSTF/FEESO Executive Officer and chair of the negotiations team said, “With a central agreement between OSSTF/FEESO, the government and the school boards’ association now in place, we are extremely disappointed with the lack of movement toward a local deal in Halton. We expect a fair local deal that doesn’t seek to undermine the working conditions of our members or the learning conditions of our students.”
