Between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM, on Tuesday, December 19th, 2017, there were seven residential, holiday break and enters in Oakville. In six of the entries culprits made entry by forcing open the front doors of the residence. In one other entry, the culprits cut a hole in glass beside the front door and were able to reach through the hole and manipulate the front door lock to gain entry.
Jewelry and currency were stolen. It is believed that the suspected vehicle used was a black Dodge Durango. It was observed in the area of two of the break-ins. Unfortunately, no licence plate information was obtained.
Residential, holiday break and enters in Oakville took place on:
- Watercliffe Court - Bronte Creek
- Trawden Way - Bronte Creek
- Morning Dove Drive - Wedgewood Creek
- Slade Crescent - West Oakville off Dorval
- Martindale Avenue - River Oaks
- Bayshire Drive - Joshua Creek
How to protect your home from these holiday break and enters:
- Police believe the person(s) responsible for these entries are responsible for numerous break and enters across the Greater Toronto Area.
- Residences are primarily being targeted for jewelry and cash. It is suggested that residents properly secure valuable jewelry preferably in Safety Deposit Boxes, or in non-traditional areas of their homes (i.e. Not in Bedrooms).
- Police are reminding residents that if you are going to be away for an extended period of time to advise a trusted neighbour of such. Please request your neighbour to pick up any mail/newspapers/etc., and to report any suspicious observations around your residence to police.
- Please ensure all doors and windows are locked, including the garage. Attempt to make your residence appear occupied even if you are not home (timers for lights, leaving a radio or television on, close blinds and drapes)
- Deadbolt your front door, using extra locks and at least 3 inch screws to reinforce the secondary door and door frame. This makes it difficult for culprits to force open doors.
- Consider adding window security film to glass.
- Help protect yourself and your neighbours by being vigilant and aware of suspicious activity in your neighbourhood.
- Police are requesting that if residents observe any suspicious activity to contact police immediately. Report suspicious circumstances including person(s) description as well as vehicle description and licence plate numbers if possible.
- Police request that residents DO NOT confront or approach any person they believe to be involved in this activity.
