While flu clinics hosted by the Halton Region Health Department are winding down, it’s not too late to get a flu shot to protect yourself and prevent spreading the virus. Residents can still get flu immunizations from many pharmacies, walk-in clinics and doctors' offices across Oakville.

“If residents haven’t been able to receive the flu shot yet, it’s important to know that it’s not too late,” said Halton Region’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Hamidah Meghani. “To help protect people from the flu and its complications, we recommend everyone over six months of age, especially young children, the elderly, pregnant women and individuals with chronic diseases, receive the flu vaccine. With the vaccine available at so many different locations throughout the community, it’s easier than ever to work your flu shot into your daily routine.”

Vaccination is the best defense against the flu. However, there are other preventative measures which can reduce your chances of becoming sick: cough and sneeze into your sleeve, wash your hands with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer along with staying at home if you are sick.

If your child is under nine years of age and requires a second dose of flu vaccine since this was his or her first flu vaccination, visit halton.ca/flu or dial 311 for information on where to get the second dose.
