John Oliver selected as federal Liberal candidate for Oakville

The Oakville Federal Liberal Association (OFLA) is pleased to announce that its members have chosen John Oliver, former CEO and President of Halton Healthcare Services, as their candidate for the next federal election. Mr. Oliver won the candidacy at a nomination meeting held last night, which concluded a contested nomination process.

Mr. Oliver brings considerable experience and leadership skills to this role. He is well-known in the Oakville community as a result of his 20-year tenure as the head of the Oakville Hospital. Mr. Oliver played a key role in the biggest infrastructure project in Oakville’s history: the new, $2.7 B Oakville Hospital being constructed at Third Line and Dundas Street. He has experience dealing with all levels of government, and he served previously as Assistant Deputy Minister for Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. His understanding of how to bring both private and public sector stakeholders together to achieve results for the community will be invaluable to his new role.

“I’m delighted that our association has completed the candidate selection process so that we can now proceed to prepare for 2015,” said OFLA President John-Frederick Cameron. “John Oliver is an excellent candidate with deep knowledge of the issues that matter to Oakvillians, and I look forward to working with him to win this riding in the next federal election.”

Mr. Cameron thanks both the Candidate Selection Committee for its role in the selection process, and Jennifer Malabar for entering the race and ensuring a vigorous and democratic process for the riding membership.
