2 people of interest cleared, 2 still at large: Mariani Jewellery in Oakville Place Robbed

In regards to the Mariani Watch Boutique robbery at the Oakville Place Mall on March 7, 2018, the persons of interest previously mentioned have been cleared of any involvement with this incident.

investigators with the Halton Regional Police Service #2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have arrested one suspect in connection to Mariani Jewellery Store robbery in Oakville Place and are seeking public assistance in identifying the two remaining suspects.

Investigators subsequently executed a Criminal Code search warrant at NELSON’s residence in Scarborough, Ontario and seized a loaded Kel-Tec 9mm handgun equipped with a 15-round magazine and 340 grams of marihuana.

NELSON is charged with:

  1. Robbery with a Firearm
  2. Disguise with Intent
  3. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  4. Breach Firearm Regulations
  5. Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  6. Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
  7. Possession of Firearm, Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
  8. Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm/ammunition
  9. Possess a Firearm knowing serial number has been altered, defaced, removed or tampered with
  10. Possession Schedule II Cannabis Marihuana - over 30 grams

NELSON was held in custody pending a bail hearing. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 7, 2018, at the Ontario Court of Justice, located at 491 Steeles Ave East, Milton.

On Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at approximately 8:30 PM, two armed suspects entered the Mariani Jewellery Store in Oakville Place which is located at 240 Leighland Ave in the Town of Oakville.

One suspect threatened staff members with a handgun while the other suspect stole an assortment of watches from the display cases. Both suspects then ran to an exit located in the south/west part of the mall. They were last seen entering a waiting vehicle described as an older model silver Dodge Caravan, which was possibly occupied by a third suspect.

No employees or individuals in the mall were physically injured during the incident.

Numerous police resources responded to the area to search for the suspects, however at this point no suspects have been located.

Both suspects are described as being approximately 5'10", average build, wearing dark clothing, blue toques and white masks. One suspect was also carrying a GoodLife gym bag – red in colour.
