Super Mailbox Canada Post: Oakville News
Canada’s federal government has exclusive jurisdiction over Canada Post’s mail and its delivery. Canada Post even has the right to use municipal rights-of-way for its post boxes and community mailboxes.
Your local Oakville representatives of Canada’s federal government are MP Terence Young south of Upper Middle Road, and Minister of Transport Lisa Raitt, above Upper Middle Road. They can be reached atterence.young.c1a@parl.gc.ca and lisa.raitt.c1@parl.gc.ca, respectively.
I’ve been advised by Canada Post that all residents impacted by the change in mail delivery will receive a package in the mail that includes a short survey, as well as a link to an online tool, to provide feedback on this initiative. I understand that the survey is intended to solicit views on the design and location of the community mailboxes, among other things. Canada Post has assured me that they will factor residents’ input into their decision-making process.
Over the next few months, Canada Post has said it will consult with the town’s Planning department to determine the most suitable locations for community mailboxes. Although we have no say over Canada Post’s decision to discontinue door-to-door mail delivery, we will seek to work with them to help minimize the disruption to our community as this initiative is implemented.
If you have additional questions about community mailbox delivery, I encourage you to contact Ms. Marnie Armstrong (Director, Municipal Engagement) at Canada Post at 613-734-6589 or marnie.armstrong@canadapost.ca
