Free Blue Box Pick-up Event for Oakville: August 17, 2013

On Saturday, August 17, Halton Region will host four Blue Box Pick-up events for residents. At these events, Halton’s new larger 22-gallon Blue Box will be available to residents for pick up, free of charge, with a limit of one Blue Box per household.

Introduced earlier this year, the larger 22-gallon Blue Boxes are designed to help residents recycle more materials now accepted in Halton’s Blue Boxes, including: clear plastic clamshells (e.g. berry and lettuce containers), single-serve yogurt cups, plastic plant pots and trays, empty metal paint cans (lids removed), and cardboard cans (e.g. frozen juice cans/chip cans).

“Oakville residents have embraced the recent waste collection enhancements and their participation is already having a positive impact on Halton’s waste diversion,” said Gary Carr, Regional Chair. “In the first few months of the expanded Blue Box program, Halton has distributed over 40,000 Blue Boxes to Halton residents and seen an increase of 13 per cent more Blue Box and GreenCart materials being collected, and a decrease of 6 per cent in the amount of garbage collected. This is a tremendous achievement, one that is helping to extend the life of Halton’s landfill site and provide savings of $15 million to taxpayers.”

Oakville residents who wish to have a new larger Blue Box can pick up at the location listed below. Please note: a new larger Blue Box is not required to participate in weekly Blue Box collection; residents may continue to use their current Blue Boxes.
