With the arrival of spring, Town of Oakville crews are busy with a variety of cleanup and repair programs to make Oakville more beautiful. This year’s work is expected to take longer than usual due to the long and snowy winter.
“Keeping Oakville beautiful is a priority for Council and our dedicated town staff,” said Mayor Rob Burton. “Together we can all continue to do our part to keep Oakville as green and clean as we’ve all come to appreciate.”
Cleanup programs currently underway:
Oversize brush pickup
Town collection of the remaining brush from the December ice storm is continuing. Residents who have large bulk brush exceeding the maximum size for the region’s collection programs should callServiceOakville at 905-845-6601 to schedule a special pickup. Branches and storm debris can also be brought to the Halton Waste Management Site at no charge until the end of May.
Ice storm cleanup in town parks, trails and woodlands
Town crews are continuing to clean up excess brush in active parks. The large amount of brush is the result of the work done during the winter to address hazardous tree conditions following the December ice storm. Tree stumps in active parks and on the road allowance will be removed over the next several months while corrective pruning and replanting initiatives will be ongoing.
Many trails and woodlands remain closed due to the continued risk of falling tree limbs. To increase public safety, entrances to these areas have been marked with yellow caution tape. Trails will reopen once they have been inspected and any broken or hanging limbs and unsafe trees have been removed. Brush pickup will continue after the trails reopen; cleanup of all 300 kilometres of the town’s woodland trails is expected to take several months to complete. The removal of brush from creek and drainage areas will be a priority during spring runoff. Regular updates on trail re-opening will be posted at oakville.ca.
Pothole repairs and graffiti cleanup

“This year’s spring cleanup will be much larger than usual with several programs overlapping due to the harsh winter conditions and ongoing ice storm cleanup,” said Colleen Bell, commissioner of Community Services for the Town of Oakville. “Our parks and road crews are working hard to collect debris, repair road damage, and remove trail and woodlands hazards so we can all enjoy a more beautiful and safe Oakville.”

Spring loose leaf collection
The town will collect piles of loose leaves between Tuesday, April 22 and Friday, May 2 in zones that receive bulk loose leaf collection service. For more information, visit oakville.ca.
Clean Sweep
Oakville’s neighbourhood cleanup initiative encourages individuals, businesses, families, and neighbourhood, school and community groups to clean up litter for 20 minutes at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 25. Register online at oakville.ca to receive complimentary gloves and bags.
