The Pumpkin Parade of 2013 was a wonderful community event put together by the West River Residents Association for Oakville. Started in 2012 as a way to keep the Halloween spirit alive a little longer, the Kerr Street BIA decided to provide an opportunity for the community to gather and show off their pumpkin carving skills. What has transpired is an event that simply left everyone smiling with children running about in costumes, a hundred plus glowing lanterns, and people engaged in conversation while taking in the folk art of pumpkin carving.
The Moonshine Cafe added the music, West River Residents Association were the muscle as well as organizers, and Tim Hortons provided free coffee and hot chocolate. Local town councillors Pam Damoff and Cathy Duddeck were part of the team of judges. The town donated free passes for swimming and skating as prizes, and the over all winner will get to ride along side the Mayor in the Santa Claus Parade. I'm looking forward to the 2014 Pumpkin Parade.
