Longtime community activist and Town Councillor Pam Damoff has announced she will seek the Federal Liberal nomination for the new riding of Oakville North-Burlington.
Damoff, who was first elected to Oakville Town Council in 2010, said in announcing her candidacy, “No matter what level of government, an elected representative serves the public, and I want to bring my commitment and experience to the next level by representing the residents of Burlington and Oakville in Ottawa.”
She is the first candidate to announce her intention to seek the Liberal nomination after the untimely passing of Max Khan, who had won the Liberal nomination for the riding in the fall.
Max’s father, Mahmood Khan, supports Damoff’s decision to run for the nomination, saying, “While we had hoped the riding would have been represented by our son, we believe Pam is the most capable person to be our new candidate. She will bring passion and energy to the role, and we look forward to working with Pam to not only win the nomination, but also to represent Oakville North-Burlington in Ottawa.”
“Max was an inspiration to all of us who knew him, and I’m touched to have the blessing of his family in this decision,” said Damoff. “Max was known for his integrity and compassion, and I’m going to carry that legacy with me through the nomination process and to Parliament Hill.”
Damoff is a long-time Liberal with over 27 years of corporate experience on Bay Street. She has lived in Oakville since 1992 and been active in the community on parent councils and as an advocate for safer cycling and the preservation of greenspace, among other causes. She is the chair of the Oakville Terry Fox Run and the Oakville Santa Claus Parade.
The riding of Oakville North-Burlington is a new electoral district with no incumbent.
