Our power went off on Sunday December 21 2013 at 8:00 AM. The weather announcer and meteorologists had been calling for bad weather for several days, so when it finally hit it wasn't a big surprise. We had survived several power outages in Oakville before, but they never lasted for long. We were presented with a reality that we didn't expect in our modern town.

Off we went to look around to see the extent of the outage. Our home was still warm but in our new place we hadn't yet converted our stove from electric to gas so there wasn't any way to warm food up. Neither my wife or I were willing to step outside to use the BBQ, so the first order of business was to get a cup of coffee and a late breakfast.

As we drove along Lakeshore just past Kerr Street going into town, Tim Hortons was operation, so we continued to a favourite spot, Croissant Express. We weren't the only ones looking for a something, but it was a relief to see that downtown Oakville was running with full power. We had to wait a minute for a table, but as all major weather events do they bring out the best in people, so we had a lovely chat with the couple next to us. After settling our bill and bidding our new friends good bye, we started to drive.

Here is just a little of what we saw:
