On Wednesday, November 27th 2019, members of the Halton Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit (I.C.E.) arrested a 21 year old Oakville man for multiple child exploitation offences.
The 21 year-old of Oakville was charged with:
- Luring a child (three counts)
- Making sexually explicit material available to a child (three counts)
- Possession of child pornography (two counts)
- Invitation to sexual touching
- Making child pornography
- Failure to comply with a Probation Order (three counts)
This investigation stemmed from multiple complaints, from multiple parents, from multiple jurisdictions regarding their children communicating with a male that they'd met on various online chat platforms specifically those geared towards hockey.
The accused utilized the user names:
- "mikhockey123"
- "mikhockey1234"
- "Jared G"
Halton Regional Police Service reminds parents of the importance of monitoring your child's online social media presence, and having a conversation with them about internet safety and the disclosure of personal information.

Safety Tips
- Never give out personal information such as name, address, telephone number and/or computer password on the Internet without parental or guardian consent
- Avoid chat rooms and web sites that are not first approved by parents or guardian
- If a child sees anything that disturbs or scares them on the Internet, tell a teacher, parent or guardian
- Never send pictures or post personal information on the Internet - particularly on sites like Facebook - without parental or guardian approval. Assume nothing is private online
- Never arrange to meet anyone whom you only know from the Internet. People are not always who they appear to be
- Control children’s Internet use (time, sites visited) and ensure that computers are located in common areas such as living / family rooms
