Decision time is here. On August 15th, Oakville News will either remain free so that everyone can access it or become a paid subscription site.
A little over two years ago, a group of committed Oakville residents joined Oakville News publisher, Nolan Machan, to give Oakville robust independent journalism.
They invested their savings, and we have built a team to deliver on that promise, a team of experienced and aspiring reporters and journalists.
- We have supported local charities.
- We have celebrated Oakville residents’ successes in business, the arts and sports.
- We have held our Town Council, which otherwise has no official opposition, to account with what we believe was a fair but critical eye.
- We have covered the pandemic, the weather and climate risks, the crime risks, and the growth challenges Oakville faces.
- We have provided a voice to new and established parts of our community.
Our goal was to create a place where you could stay informed about your Town and your fellow Oakville citizens. More than 70,000 of you read us regularly.
We think independent local journalism and an informed public are essential for a free, democratic and prosperous community. If you do too, please click here and make a small monthly commitment.
In spite of committed local advertisers — please support them! — we are still a long way from covering our costs.
Oakville News’s backers will assess the status of voluntary contributions over the next two weeks. We hope you will come through so that those who really cannot afford $5 per month can continue to freely access our site.
