Winners were announced for the Halton Police’s annual Give Respect, Get Respect - Join the Movement bullying awareness and prevention campaign during a recent gala at the Galaxy theatres in Milton.
The Halton District School Board participated with Halton Police, Halton Region, Halton Catholic District School Board and independent schools in the campaign designed to recognize the long-term effects bullying can have on youth, their families and friends.
Categories included Best Video, Best Poster and Best Original Song. At the Elementary Level, Maple Grove Public School was recognized in Best Video and Emily Carr Public School in Best Original Song. Elementary (Grades 6-8) and high school students were challenged to develop messages that address bullying and which can become part of a friendly competition using various media such as technical studies and the general arts. Each school board is responsible for selecting its final submissions that are, in turn, presented to a judging panel comprised of police, school board officials and youth.
“This year's event showcases the powerful partnership which exists between the Halton District School Board and the Halton Regional Police Service,” said Jonathan Shoss, System Principal for Safe and Inclusive Schools for the Halton District School Board. “The quality of the entries clearly demonstrates how passionate and committed our students are to building safe and inclusive cultures in all our schools.”
