Oakville Town Council Elections 2014: Ward 5: Del McIntee

With 400 doors knocked on Del McIntee is serious about connecting to his potential constituents in Ward 5, which is a key pledge in his platform if he becomes a town councillor. Ward 5 is bounded by Trafalgar Road on the East, 16 Mile Creek on the West, QEW on the South, and the the Highway 407 to the North.

McIntee believes that councillors need to get back to the basics by quickly responding to their communities' questions and concerns, and feels that sense of immediacy is currently lacking. Regular town hall meetings for the ward are a necessary and effective way to find out what the community needs and is concerned about.

Del graduated from Carlton University in 1980 with a degree in Political Science and History. From 1987 to 1991 Del worked as an executive assistant for Toronto councillor of Ward 8 prior to amalgamation, and was responsible for all the constituency work. He then worked in the financial services industry for Bank of Montreal. His current position is part-time as new business manager for a local Oakville IT business, while the remainder of his time is dedicated to raising his two children (Lynley who is 11 and Nolan who is 9).

Having just returned from a Trinidad/Tobaggo in January with his wife and family, he realized how much he wants to give back to the area. He and his wife have had a home in Oakville since 2001.

"Being abroad makes you appreciate the safety and wonderful opportunities that exist in our community," said Del."Oakville is such a great place to raise a family, and I want to help keep that way."

In total there are 5000 residences in the Ward 5 and by the time of the election, he hopes to have contacted 3/4's of those residents. Currently, Mr. McIntee lives in Oak Park with his family.
