Oakville Town Council Elections 2014: Ward 5: Linda Nazareth

The field of candidates for the position of town councilor for Ward 5 has risen to five which includes Linda Nazareth who submitted her candidacy on September 2nd. Linda is best known as the on-air economist for CTV’s Business News Network from 1999 to 2012.

Since 1977 when her family moved to Bronte, Nazareth has called Oakville home. She graduated from QE Park High School, which has since been turned into a cultural and community centre. When she married and decided to have a family, she and her husband chose Ward 5 to raise a family. Her daughter, a high performance figure skater attended Sunnydale Public School.

She is a graduated from the University of Toronto with a Masters in Arts and Economics. Along with her position with BNN, Nazareth found time to write three books: “The Ever After Effect”, “The Leisure Economy”, and her latest book “Economorphics”. Linda is also a Senior Fellow for Economics and Population Change at The Macdonald Laurier Insititute, a right-leaning public policy think-tank. She received the Queens Jubilee Award in 2012.

She was recently paid to be an Economic and Population consultant for Fort McMurray, and realized she could give the same assistance to the Town. It was then she decided to run for town council.

“Ward 5 is growing rapidly, and I feel my skills as an economist would greatly benefit not only my ward but also the entire town,” stated Nazareth.

The immense growth is going to require well thought out planning, according to Linda, who indicated that it will also require a great deal of the town's resources.

“It is important to understand where the town is going,” commented Nazareth; “and my skill set as an economist will help the town make the right decisions not only residents but also businesses.”
