On Tuesday, April 25, 2017, the Halton Catholic District School Board Student Senate held its annual Student Trustee elections at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Secondary School in Oakville.
Each secondary school submitted the name of a candidate, all of whom demonstrated a strong commitment to their faith, as well as an encompassing involvement in their respective school, parish and community. All candidates at the election were provided with an opportunity to articulate their interest in representing students on the Halton Catholic District School Board, and responded to questions from Student Senators and the current Student Trustees.
Following the interviews, the Student Senate voted by means of secret ballot. Board staff were present as supervisors to the process.
- INGRID SCHWECHT (Burlington Student Trustee),
- CHRISTINA ATRACH (North Halton Student Trustee) and
- ANAMARIA BARBUL (Oakville Student Trustee),
were elected as the 2017-2018 Student Trustees.
Anamaria Barbul is a Grade 11 Honour Roll student at Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School. She is an active member of the Student Senate, Prefects, and Free the Children. Other co-curricular commitments include work on the Newspaper Committee and playing on the school rugby team. Anamaria and her family are members of the Mary Mother of God Parish community.
The term of office for the three new Student Trustees is for the 2017-2018 school year. During their tenure, Student Trustees are afforded the same privileges as Trustees to participate at meetings of the Board and at meetings of Committees of the Board. Student Trustees may exercise a non-binding vote at Board Meetings and may be present at in-camera sessions of the Board.
