The preeminence of the United States and our proximity to the American border, combined with the fact that many American ex-patriates are fortunate enough to call Oakville and its surrounding areas home, made last night’s election feel like it was happening here.

Many woke up this morning either fearful or thrilled that the world had changed.

The American Women’s Club of Southern Ontario is a nonpartisan, nonpolitical club that provides fellowship, civic, philanthropic, and social activities for those with American ties. Our policies call for us to act as “American Ambassadors,” and as such, we will not comment on last evening’s election, but will work to remind people that those with American ties can be big-hearted and open-minded people.

Our annual Thanksgiving luncheon is tomorrow, Thursday, November 10, 2016 at St. Paul's in Oakville. It is a time to remember that we have more in common than what separates us. Our organization is an inclusive one, welcoming people from every part of the United States, and when we come together our events are marked by laughter, hard work, and unity, not divisiveness.
