To keep you up-to-date, here is the Ontario Government-January 2019 update as it relates to Oakville. It ranges from legislation to consultations. Even though Ontario has elected a government, Oakville MPP Stephen Crawford  still wants to hear from his constituents.

Housing

  1. Concluded consultation on housing, including more than 2,000 online submissions – more than 80 per cent from the public

Consumer Services

  1. Launched consultations to modernize real estate laws

Labour

  1. Saved businesses $5 million by making health and safety training fully available online
  2. Named world renowned expert Dr. Paul Demers to lead review of occupational cancers

Healthcare

  1. Celebrated a major construction milestone for two new Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) facilities
  2. Received the first report of the Premier’s Council on Improving Healthcare and Ending Hallway Medicine
  3. Signed two bilateral agreements with Health Canada that will provide Ontario with funding to support a comprehensive and connected mental health care system
  4. Provided 128 hospitals with funding to upgrade and maintain their facilities

Energy

  1. Passed along $200 million in savings at Bruce Power back to electricity consumers

Indigenous Affairs

  1. Announced $27.5 million in support for Indigenous economic development

Education

  1. Highlighted proposed changes to make child care and early years programs more affordable for families
  2. Reduced college and university tuition fees by 10% starting September 2019

Transportation

  1. Made life easier across Ontario by supporting investments in better community transit
  2. Launched new technology at truck inspections to save commercial carriers time, money and fuel
  3. Expanded Ontario’s Automated Vehicle Pilot program
  4. Boosted transit funding for municipalities
  5. Froze more driver and vehicle fees

Finance

  1. Helped safeguard communities by providing municipalities with a second payment of $15 million to assist with the cost of legalizing cannabis and combat the illegal market
  2. Received the Golden Scissors Award from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, making Premier Ford the first-ever Premier of Ontario to receive the award
  3. Launched consultations to lower auto insurance rates in Ontario

Environment, Conservation & Parks

  1. Launched consultations to better protect species at risk
  2. Froze all hunting and fishing fee increases and removed the $2 service fee
