Late on Tuesday December 22, 2015 the Ontario Provincial Police closed the East bound lanes of the QEW/403 after a four vehicle crash which caused fatalities.

The accident happened around 9:30 PM after a flatbed truck, an 18 wheeler and two other vehicles became entangled. The vehicle between the two trucks, an SUV was destroyed. The tracker trailer carrying car parts ignited.

Emergency Services arrived at the scene soon after the accident, and the QEW East bound was closed. The two occupants of the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene. Three additional people were taken to hospital. At the time of this post the police had not identified the victims, and no charges had been laid. After the investigation is completed, police believe charges will be laid.

Traffic was backed up at the East Bound exit ramp at Trafalgar Road.

It took hours for the drivers who were backed up from the accident, to exit the highway. The QEW/403 was closed for the duration of Wednesday morning's commute. The on-ramps from Dorval and Trafalgar to the East bound QEW/403 were closed as well. Drivers were forced to exit at Trafalgar Road, which caused additional congestion on Speers and Cornwall Roads. The only saving grace for drivers was that many people took the week off  from work, so traffic was considerably lighter.

Due to the nature of the accident, the police worked as delicately as possible to separate the SUV from the two trucks. Road work will be required due to the fire.

Police are requesting that any witnesses to the accident contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.
