Halton Regional Police have just completed the at-scene investigation of a pedestrian train fatality in the Town of Oakville. The incident took place on Friday, October 19, 2018.

Police were called to the tracks running parallel to Speers Road, just west of Fourth Line at approximately 3:20 p.m. Friday afternoon by Metrolinx, who advised that one of their GO trains had struck a person.

Uniformed officers, as well as investigators from the Collision Reconstruction Unit and Forensic Identification Services also attended. It was confirmed that an adult female was struck. She was declared dead at the scene by paramedics from Halton EMS. Oakville Fire was also in attendance.

All GO train and freight train traffic was halted while the investigators completed their work at the scene. At 4:01 p.m. the all-clear was given by the chief invetigator to re-open the tracks. The scene was cleared.

Halton Regional Police Services will not be making comment as to the reasons why the female was walking on the tracks. She has been tentatively identified and officers are in the process of notifying next of kin.

There will be no further press release issued on pedestrian train fatality.

NOTE: Some media outlets have been reporting that the decedent was a child. That information is INCORRECT, and we can confirm that it was an ADULT female who was struck.
