Remembrance services started on Sunday, November 6, 2016 in Bronte with a traditional march from the Bronte Legion to the Cenotaph by Bronte Harbour. Air, Navy, and Army Cadets along with other first responders take part in the very moving ceremony as the bells of Walton Church ring.
On Monday, November 7, 2016 was the Veteran's Lunch which started several years ago by Kristin Courtney of Medichair to acknowledge the incredible sacrifice of Canadian Veterans that has ensured the freedom we are all privileged to enjoy. Over 700 Veterans attended the event that took place at the Oakville Conference Centre.
This is Oakville's primary remembrance Day service and is held on November 11, 2015 starting at 10:30 a.m.
The Parade of veterans starts at Centennial Square, intersection of Church and Navy streets, and ends at George's Square, on Trafalgar Road between Summer and Palmer avenues. It is hosted by Oakville Legion Branch 114.
At 10:30 a.m. Veterans (followed by members of the Armed Forces, RCMP, OPP, Halton Police, Oakville Firefighters, Knights of Columbus, Cadets, Scouts and Guides, and local dignitaries) depart from Church and Navy streets and march along Lakeshore Road and up Trafalgar Road to the Cenotaph at George's Square.
At 11 a.m. the Ceremony at George's Square will include two minutes of silence and a wreath laying ceremony. After the ceremony, veterans march back to Church and Navy streets. For more information contact the Oakville Legion at 905-845-6271.
The Memorial is located in Memorial Park off Oak Park Blvd. between Hays Blvd and Central Parkway Drive.
The ceremony will take place on November 11th, 2015 at 10:45 a.m. followed by a moment of silence at 11 a.m.. This is a civilian service, and is traditionally run by Councillor Jeff Knoll and Councillor Marc Grant of Ward 5. Also in attendance will be Member of Parliament Pam Damoff the representative for Oakville North-Burlington, along with local Halton Police, Oakville Fire Department, and EMS from the community.
