Rodger Cuzner, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour toured the Operating Engineers Training Institute of Ontario Local 793 on July 24, 2017. Local 793 is located at 2245 Speers Road in Oakville, Ontario.

The Operating Engineers Training Institute of Ontario (OETIO) offers tower and mobile crane operator training. The Institute also trains students on all types of heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, tractor-loader-backhoes, forklifts and concrete pumps, and offers construction safety training programs. The campus also features state-of-the-art simulators that provide an interactive virtual environment with 3D graphics.

It was a pleasure to tour the world-class, state-of-the-art educational and training facility of Oakville’s OETIO with Rodger Cuzner, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour. Local 793 has supported and developed a high level of quality in their equipment and safety training to all of its members. Oakville is proud to be home to one of the largest and most successful construction locals in Ontario.

With more than 14,500 members, Local 793 has played an integral role in projects spanning from the roads and bridges you travel on, the subways you ride in, and the offices you work in.

“Our Government strongly believes that every employee has the right to a fair, safe, and healthy workplace, and remains focused on supporting and protecting Canadian workers,” said MP Rodger Cuzner. “It is thanks to organizations such as Local 793 that Canada’s labour movement has been able to build a strong economy that reflects Canadians’ values of fairness and inclusivity.”

“The IUOE plays an integral role in ensuring the safety and training of all of our members to provide the highest degree of skilled labour to contribute towards infrastructure projects across the country,” said OETIO Executive Director Harold McBride. “We are so pleased with the support provided by the government for their continued investment in infrastructure across Ontario and Canada that helps us continue this positive growth.”

The Operating Engineers Training Institute of Ontario has been in operation since 1982 and is leading the way in simulation training and has a fleet of state-of-the-art simulators for tower and mobile crane, concrete pump and heavy equipment training.
