It’s an auspicious time at Sheridan as the college kicks off the Fall 2019 term with two new programs, embarks on a federal inclusion and equity initiative, and celebrates the 50thanniversary of its acclaimed glassblowing program.
The start of term saw approximately 22,000 full and part time students across its three campuses, with 5,000 students enrolled at Sheridan’s Hazel McCallion Campus in Mississauga – the highest ever for Sheridan’s newest campus.

New Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering
Fall 2019 marks the beginning of classes for Sheridan’s new Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering). Sheridan’s very first engineering degree prepares graduates to excel in the workplace on day one, providing unparalleled experience with industry-standard advanced technology. Students get hands-on experience with 3D printers, robotics, rapid prototyping, integrated energy systems including solar, wind, and geothermal energy, HVAC systems, water jet technology, advanced mechatronics system equipment and more. In their fourth year of study, students have the option to specialize in energy or mechatronics.
New Creative Industries Management Post Grad Diploma
Sheridan’s legacy of leadership in the creative arts reaches new heights this fall with the official launch of the Creative Industries Management post grad diploma. A first of its kind in Canada, the program will produce graduates able to combine creativity and arts knowledge with the strong business acumen needed to navigate the nuances and fast pace of the film, television, animation and gaming industries. Courses include strategic arts management, audience development, and entertainment law and negotiation.
Sheridan Glassblowing Turns 50
This fall also marks the 50th anniversary of Sheridan’s renowned glass-blowing program. In July, Sheridan’s glassblowing community stepped into the spotlight with the premiere of Blown Away, a new reality series on Netflix closely connected to the program. Sheridan will be celebrating the success of Blown Away at a special event on October 19 which will welcome the show’s stars and creators to the Trafalgar campus for panel discussions and glassblowing demonstrations.
Work begins on new Federal Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Research Pilot Program
Sheridan will begin its work this term as a participating institution in the Government of Canada’s newly established Dimensions pilot program. Led by three federal research granting agencies, the goal of the program is to foster transformational change within the Canadian postsecondary research community by identifying and eliminating obstacles and inequities related to funding, participation and practices. Starting this fall, Sheridan other participating institutions will each develop a self-assessment team to coordinate EDI data collection, analysis, and action planning.
