In an effort to support its Spanish speaking international students Sheridan has launched a new blog: www.sheridanlatino.com  Part information source, part social network, sheridanlatino.com strives to be the go-to source for Spanish speaking students at Sheridan.

“International students are extremely important to Sheridan’s future,” said Ian Marley, Vice President Student Affairs and Enrolment Management.  “They bring a diversity of experience and thinking to the classroom, which enriches the learning for all of our students.” These students hail from over 40 countries, including Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Dominican Republic and Spain.

Over the past five years, Sheridan’s international student population has grown by 600% to over 3,000 students.

Sheridan Latino is written entirely in Spanish.  It includes information to assist students with registration and provides helpful tips on everything from transportation to housing, health insurance, social and cultural differences, volunteer opportunities, and news and events both at Sheridan and beyond.

“Our job is to make students’ lives easier, before, during and after their time at Sheridan,” explains Alexander Prokopenko, Sheridan’s International Business Development Manager for Latin America.  “The blog is our response to this goal.  It’s an ongoing project that’s intended to be responsive to students’ changing requirements.”

The site is also intended to help bring people together -- especially students who are new to Canada and who might be looking for ways to connect with peers, broaden their networks, or simply share their experiences.  Students, alumni and employees who write in Spanish are all invited to contribute.

Sheridanlatino.com follows the successful creation of a Russian language blog that was launched at Sheridan in 2012, which can be found at http://sheridan-blog.ca
