The team behind the collective energy-saving initiatives at Sheridan College known as Mission Zero received FMXcellence honours at a conference in Baltimore, Maryland on March 10, 2015.
The North American-wide FMXcellence program is administered annually by Building Operating Management magazine and acknowledges facilities management teams that apply best practices and innovation to meet the priorities of their organizations.
Sheridan’s Facilities Operations and Facilities Services teams as well as the Office for Sustainability worked and continue to work collaboratively to carry out the broad program of institutional change. “The team’s enthusiasm and professionalism has been crucial to the successful implementation of Mission Zero initiatives,” said Herbert Sinnock, Manager of Sustainable Energy Systems at Sheridan College. “It’s an honour to be recognized by our peers in the industry for this work.”
Mission Zero’s two-pronged approach aims to achieve a net zero-waste objective and a 50% reduction of energy and carbon emissions resulting from activities on Sheridan campuses by 2020. The ambitious program is vital to ensure the college does its part in reducing waste and carbon emissions.
Representatives from Sheridan were on hand at the National Facilities Management and Technology (NFMT) Conference and Expo at the Baltimore Convention Center to celebrate the achievement. The three other organizations being recognized in 2015 are adidas, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre and the University of Arizona.
