Six teams qualify for Destination ImagiNation® global final competition in Knoxville, Tennessee

During the past weekend, nine teams from the Halton District School Board competed in the Destination ImagiNation® provincial tournament held at the University of Toronto Scarborough. In total, six of the teams representing four schools qualified for the global finals to be held in Knoxville, Tennessee from May 21-24, 2014.

The qualifying elementary schools include three teams from Sam Sherratt Public School in Milton, and one team each from Post’s Corners Public School in Oakville and C.H. Norton Public School in Burlington. In the secondary school competition, Abbey Park High School in Oakville qualified for the global finals. All teams previously competed in regional competitions to qualify for the provincial tournament.

Destination ImagiNation® is a program in numerous schools in the Halton District School Board. The program encourages students to work together on creative projects that teach important skills such as brainstorming, divergent thinking, budgeting, research skills, project management and knowledge application – all done in a fun atmosphere of camaraderie and teamwork.

The culminating activity of the year is a series of performance-oriented tournaments, where the teams present their solutions and vie for the chance to go to an annual worldwide championship tournament called the global finals.

“We are thrilled to have six school teams qualify for the global finals this year,” said David Euale, Director of Education for the Halton District School Board. “I know the school teams have worked hard to achieve this goal and we are proud to have them represent the Halton District School Board.”
