More and more Oakville families are forced to sleep in their cars, a friend’s couch, on the street, or in a shelter on any given night of the week. In order to combat homelessness in Halton Home Suite Hope, Genworth Canada, Oakville Infiniti and other event partners have launched of Sleep in Your Car for Hope 2017.

The launch event on June 23, 2017 at the YMCA of Oakville kicks off a month’s long campaign to raise awareness for single-parent families facing homelessness. The campaign began in November 2016 with then Home Suite Hope board chairman, Peter Kolisnyk, sleeping in a car donated for the purpose by Oakville Infiniti for seven memorable nights, raising over $20,000 to aid families who are homeless.

The campaign ends on September 23rd, 2017 where Halton and GTA residents will themselves get a chance to take part in Sleep in Your Car for Hope 2017 in support of their homeless neighbours. Only 100 spots are available.

Home Suite Hope is very happy to be launching this event. It’s our hope that Sleep in Your Car for Hope 2017 will encourage people to become more aware of what the regions’ most vulnerable are going through. It’s a very tangible way for residents to celebrate Canada 150th Anniversary and to show their support for families who could use really some help.

Proceeds raised will go towards housing, education, support, and training for the community’s most vulnerable families. For more information about Sleep in Your Car for Hope 2017, visit www.sleepinyourcar.com or contact [email protected].

“Genworth Canada is a proud supporter of Home Suite Hope and the important work they do in helping single parents living in poverty in the Oakville and Halton region. The Sleep in your Car for Hope 2017 event is a real way of demonstrating what some families experience as their reality every night,” said Debbie McPherson, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Genworth Canada. “As a strong community supporter, Genworth Canada wants to do our part in raising awareness of the organization and the great work they do in providing educational programs and services to help end the cycle of poverty. We are pleased to sponsor the Sleep in a Car 2017 event and are encouraging staff, family and friends to get involved in this important cause.”

“The people of Oakville have a rich history of giving back, and at Oakville Infiniti we’re proud to continue that tradition by supporting Sleep in Your Car for Hope 2017” said Adam Robinson, General Manager, Oakville Infiniti. “It is my hope that this event will bring awareness, and resources, to a very real issue in our community. We are excited to take part!”
