Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning from January 28th to 29th. An Alberta Clipper is expected to drop 15 to 20 cm. The snow combines with sustained winds of 30 km/hr along with gusts reaching 50 km.

The strong and gusting winds often result in white out conditions.

What makes this snow event particularly treacherous is the wind direction. A south-east wind results in Oakville being hit hard. Why? The wind gathers moisture off the lake.

For today, January 28th, the snows starts falling around 11:00 AM and ends Tuesday, January 29th around 9:00 AM. The rate of snowfall is consistent.

Over the next 24 hours temperatures will continue to rise from minus 16 that feels like minus 27. By early Tuesday (3:00 AM) temperatures rise to zero. By Tuesday at 9:00 AM the temperature drops again to minus 6 and feels like minus 15.

The weather effects the evening commute on Monday, January 29th and Tuesday morning's commute January 29th. Keep travelling to a minimum. It is a good idea as accumulation increases. Before heading out to a specific place or event check to confirm they are still  open and operating.

The town does give snow clearing information at Oakville.ca. It provides information not just about plowing, but also salting, and sidewalk clearing.

Finally, if you have issues getting out of your home, reach out to your neighbours. People do help out. Also, if you know of someone who needs help, take a moment to check in with them.
