Rain and patches of dense fog will continue to affect the area early this morning. The rain is forecast to change to snow by midday as temperatures plummet with the passage of a cold front. There may also be a brief period of freezing rain during the changeover from rain to snow.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots could become icy and slippery. Extra care should be taken when walking or driving in affected areas.
The snow is forecast to taper off behind the cold front, limiting snowfall amounts to a few centimetres at most.

This winter weather is causing havoc. Environment Canada has issued another Special Weather Statement on January 11-2018, and it covers pretty much everything you don't want to see.
In a nutshell, they are forecasting rain which may cause flooding. As temperatures drop, the pools of water will turn into ice. If that wasn't enough, it will snow for 12 hours.
What can I say, it isn't looking pretty. The rain will start in earnest late Thursday afternoon. Since the ground is saturated, the water has no where to go. Flooding is possible.
Friday will be a real treat. Temperatures will plummet 16 degrees, so all that water will turn to ice around noon. Next it will start to snow. Friday's afternoon commute is going to be a mess.
Even after 12 hours of snow, shovelling should not be too bad Saturday morning. However, it will be cold. The forecast temperature is minus 13; however, it will feel like minus 20.

Mild and rainy conditions are expected over much of southern Ontario today, tonight and into Friday.
The rain is expected to be patchy and light for much of today, but may become more widespread tonight and into Friday. A general rainfall of 10 to 20 mm appears likely, although some areas may see higher amounts. This rainfall in combination with the melting snowpack may result in pooling of water on roads and low-lying areas.
A very strong cold front will cross the region from northwest to southeast on Friday bringing an abrupt end to the mild spell. Rain will quickly transition to snow, with a risk of brief freezing rain during the changeover. Snowfall amounts are expected to be limited to a few cm.
With the much colder air moving in on Friday, icy conditions on roads and sidewalks are likely due to the freezing of residual water from either melted snow or rain.
